Erosion to Interaction: Using construction waste for site rejuvenation

The project focuses on revitalising a degraded site near the Sant Sarovar Dam in Gandhinagar, an area now overrun with construction waste and eroded slopes that once housed lush greenery. The site also contains the ruins of a beautiful fort, which is currently used for riverbed soil sieving and waste dumping. To address these environmental challenges, the project is structured around three core strategies. The first strategy involves collecting and segregating the construction waste and re-purposing the materials for on-site construction and place-making elements. A temporary building will facilitate waste sorting and storage. The second strategy focuses on site restoration through interactive retaining walls along eroded edges and planting species like nitrogen fixers and soil stabilisers to heal the land. The third strategy enhances the site by adding programs to attract both local and external visitors. Over time, the site will transform into a thriving landscape built with reclaimed materials, gradually healing into a fully developed project.
