The Green Bank: Modular Neighborhood Parks

Located within the dense neighborhood fabric of Wadaj in Ahmedabad, the project reimagines public open spaces as active ecological and infrastructural systems rather than isolated recreational parks. Guided by a larger masterplan, fragmented plots across the TP are stitched together through streets, edges, and everyday public spaces, embedding them more contiguously within the urban fabric. Using a “plug-in toolkit” approach, the project develops a bank of modular ecological and social infrastructures that can adapt, repeat, and evolve across multiple sites and conditions. The bank includes systems for water- through bioswales, detention ponds, and percolation systems; soil building- through composting and waste regeneration; ecology- through native planting and local nurseries; and energy- through solar infrastructure. Interwoven within these systems are productive social infrastructures such as cafes, seating, play areas, and gathering spaces. Together, these smaller plug-in interventions allow open spaces to operate as productive landscapes that support ecology, resource generation, and everyday public life within the neighborhood.
